Flash Fiction Month

Remember how your mother told you never to flash your fiction in public? Well, we here at Flash Fiction Month don’t adhere to such societal norms.

FFM is an annual community writing event, run during the month of July, in which participants write one piece of flash fiction between 55-1000 words every day for a month.

Each day we post prompts, and the occasional (optional) extra challenge, and though it may seem daunting at first, we guarantee you'll have a good time, meet some new people, and learn a thing or two about writing along the way.

Throughout the rest of the year we help keep the flash fiction fires burning by posting a casual Flash Prompt every second month, from September onwards.

:bulletgreen: What is Flash Fiction Month all about?

Flash Fiction Month is an annual community writing event, run in July, in which participants write one piece of flash fiction every day for a month.

:bulletgreen: What is Flash Fiction?

Flash Fiction is simply very short prose pieces, generally defined as being 1000 words or less. The word limits for Flash Fiction Month are 55 words minimum, to 1000 words maximum.

:bulletgreen: How do I join?

Simple, just become a member of this group so that you can submit your FFM stories directly to the group gallery, and watch the founding account Flash-Fic-Month for the daily prompts and link-deviations. It's also a good idea to let us know that you plan to participate in FFM via the annual Sign-Up Page when it rolls around each July.

:bulletgreen: Still have questions?

Visit our comprehensive FAQ page and all will be revealed.

:bulletgreen: Feeling generous?

Our FFM winner's prizes are funded entirely by donations! So if you're feeling altruistic and have some points to spare, just head over to Flash-Fic-Month, and give us all your points. There, that's a good deviant. :ninjaplot:

Welcome to Flash Prompt #14 !

Another year is upon us, and with it comes another fiendish Flash Fiction challenge. Truly, will this madness never end?!

Viva!

 INSTRUCTIONS

Bullet; Red Your story must be between 55-1000 words in length.
Bullet; Red Include all the challenge elements, and make sure that you mention which Flash Prompt # you've used in your artist comment.
Bullet; Red There's no time limit for submissions, but to be part of the regular feature your story should be in by the 28th of February.
Bullet; Red To submit your entry, paste a link to your Flash Prompt story in the comments below
Bullet; Red Then add your story to the Flash Prompts gallery folder in FlashFictionMonth so that it may be read by one and all!

FLASH PROMPT #  14

Your first challenge of the new year is thus!

Bullet; White ELEMENT ONE: Memento
Write a story backwards, beginning with the last sentence, and ending with the first sentence. You can choose to tackle this scene-by-scene, sentence-by-sentence, or in whatever manner you see fit. Just make sure that your story progresses reverse-chronologically through the events in-between.

But wait, there's more! (Really, by now you should know that there's always more.)

Bullet; White ELEMENT TWO: Otnemem
In addition, your word-count should be a mirror image of itself, with each sentence containing the exact same number of words as its opposite. So if the first sentence has 18 words in it, then so must the last sentence. If the fourth sentence has 7 words, then so must the fourth to last sentence, and so on, and so forth.

We know, it's hideous, and awful, and you'll have to plan in advance, and COUNT ALL THINGS. But on the bright side you do have two months to figure it out. Now kindly excuse us while we return to our evil lair to indulge in a light spot of maniacal laughter. EVIL Laughter!

I'm wondering... would you guys recommend we give our submissions proper titles instead of like "FFM 2017 Day _ Submission"?

It's up to you entirely. If you think coming up with 31 stories is hard, coming up with 31 distinct titles can be a nightmare (we know). Go with whatever works best for you. :D

Ok, just curious, is there a problem with the chat?

Seems to be working fine, is your browser giving you grief? The dA chat can be quite sensitive sometimes.

Howdy! It's fairly common (at least for me) for a flash fic to branch into a larger or longer story - should we submit those to this group as well?

Alas, at the moment we only accept stories that have been generated specifically for either FFM or Flash Prompts. :)

ok this is driving me nuts the answer you gave me to upload my stories to the FFM group gallery disappeared and I can't find the place anymore. It still won't recognize the group. I'm going to tear what's left of my hair off my head Waaaah! =P (Razz) =P (Razz) .
Can you please give me (again sorry) the link to the page that has "contribute" and I'll make sure to add it to my favourites ;-) Thanks

Just figured out your problem, you're not a member of the group! So you need to join FlashFictionMonth and then dA will allow you to submit them to the gallery.

The only reason it was going through before is that there was a loophole in the settings that was allowing non-members to suggest deviations to the Featured folder (which is why only that kept showing up). But we closed it yesterday to try and avoid any further submissions confusion, so if you want your stories in the group gallery you'll need to become a member.

Not to worry. :pat: It's easy to find, if you lose it again just go into the gallery section of the group FlashFictionMonth

Here's the link for the 2016 gallery. flashfictionmonth.deviantart.c…
